INSTEAD, STELTENKAMP REVEALS THAT IN 1904 BLACK ELK WAS BAPTIZED A CATHOLIC AND SUBSEQUENTLY SERVED AS A DEVOTED CATECHIST AND MISSIONARY TO HIS FELLOW AMERICAN INDIANS UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 1950.
