AGATE IS A SILICATE MATERIAL WITH A TRIGONAL CRYSTAL SYSTEM. IT HAS A WAXY LUSTER AND A 7 HARDNESS ON THE MOH’S SCALE. IT FORMS IN ALL MINERAL ENVIROMENTS BUT IS MOST COMMONLY FOUND IN IGENIOUS ROCKS. HISTORICALLY, AGATES WERE HIGHLY PRIZED AMONG ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS.
