Knightia is an extinct genus of clupeid clupeiform bony fish that lived in the fresh water lakes and rivers of North America during the Eocene epoch. These fish are close relatives of the Herring family. Wyoming contained significant freshwater lakes during the Eocene period. The Green River deposits contain the some of the most abundant best-preserved freshwater fish fossils in the world These fossils are straight from Green River Valley of Wyoming.
